Day 3 — {date3}

More Thimphu then on to DochuLa Pass for overnight in the clouds

Pilgrim lighting incense at the Memorial Chorten.  Relax your subject with conversation; then position your tripod and then wait for the right moment.

Rise whenever you like, breakfast 7 to 9. After spending another leisurely day in Thimphu you then drive to our next hotel, The Dochula Resort. This hotel is the only one in Bhutan that is located in a high pass. With an altitude of 10,500 ft., the hotel is old but recently renovated by the new owner, a lama. DochuLa (la means pass so just say DochuLa) and the hotel offer panoramic views of the snowcapped Himalayas. From the hotel and from the parking lot of DochuLa there are excellent hiking trails, you can do these short nature hikes in the afternoon/ evening of day 3 or the morning of day 4. Here you can also spend some time roaming among the Druk Wangyal Chortens. Built in 2004 to "...celebrate the stability and progress that His Majesty (K4) has brought to the nation," this hill of 108 religious buildings in the middle of the pass reflects Bhutan's spiritual and artistic traditions.
